SHTF-Ready Meals with Beef Pasta Marinara
Hey y’all, Matt here from Richmond. When you’re preppin’ for SHTF, food is one of those things you can’t mess up. You need somethin’ that lasts, tastes decent, and keeps you goin’. I’ve been tryin’ out some freeze-dried meals lately, and Peak Refuel’s Beef Pasta Marinara caught my eye. Thought I’d share why I think it’s worth a spot in your bug-out bag.
As I try out different brands, I’ll introduce you to other products too.
I’m always on the lookout for meals that don’t weigh me down but still pack a punch. Peak Refuel’s Beef Pasta Marinara has real beef and pasta in a marinara sauce—it ain’t gourmet, but for a freeze-dried meal, it’s pretty darn good. I ate one after a long day of campin’, and it hit the spot. Plus, it’s got 47 grams of protein, which is solid for keepin’ your strength up when things go south.
These Peak Refuel pouches are good for 5 years, but I’ve heard they can last 20-25 years if you store ‘em right. I keep mine in a dry corner of my basement here in Richmond—any cool, dry spot’ll do. Just make sure they don’t get wet or sit in the heat. I’ve got a few in a sealed bin with some oxygen absorbers, just to be extra safe.
One pouch of the Beef Pasta Marinara gives you 1,040 calories. That’s about half of what you’d need in a day if you’re just sittin’ around—say, 2,000 calories. But in SHTF, you’re probably movin’, haulin’ gear, or settin’ up camp, so you might need closer to 3,000 calories. Two pouches a day, and you’re set. It’s not a feast, but it’ll keep you goin’ ‘til you can hunt or forage.
I’m not sayin’ Peak Refuel is the only option out there, but it’s been a solid addition to my prepper stash. It’s light at 6.35 oz, easy to make—just add hot water—and doesn’t taste like sawdust, which is more than I can say for some other brands I’ve tried.
